Develop a new technology for truck tire and wheel industries. Researchers from Lehigh University’s Center for Advanced Materials & Nanotechnology will explore new technologies in electro optics, electomagnetics, electronics & acoustics in the development of this new product.
Finalize product formulation and production equipment requirements for a new insulation and fireproofing material. Advanced-Tec produces industrial materials based on proprietary formulations utilizing recycled coal-combustion fly-ash. These environmentally sound products achieve superior performance compared to competitive materials.
Improve Alcon’s vacuum furnace heat treatment system to reduce costs and improve quality. Alcon manufactures ophthalmic surgical products such as scalpels, sutures, and needles to exacting specifications.
Validate a diagnostic and prognostic test that predicts the risk of developing esophageal cancer in patients with Barrett’s Esophagus. The test employs a “spatial systems biology approach” to anatomic pathological testing, in contrast with the current pathology testing that is a largely manual and subjective process. Cernostics will continue to develop this molecular diagnostic test with biopsy specimens and clinical data from Geisinger Health System, Danville, in order to select and refine biomarkers and complete software development. Additional clinical validation studies will lead to commercialization of the test via Cernostics’ clinical reference laboratory.
A new software platform that supports internal information technology staff dealing with IT problems within their companies. 24/7 monitoring and log trails are built in, providing complete audit and compliance functions. Called Enterprise Technical Support Center (ETSC), this platform improves productivity and service availability at reduced cost.
Analyze geological formations in the region to determine if they are a viable location for carbon dioxide sequestration. The new 270 megawatt integrated gasification combined cycle power plant being proposed for Good Spring, PA, has the ability to capture its carbon dioxide by-product. This study will assist in sequestration efforts.
Commercialize the company’s initial product, the Illumaguard. The Illumaguard is a patent-pending, technologically innovative, and energy-smart battery back-up for residential lighting in the event of a power outage. The product is inconspicuous and intelligent in the way it discharges and recharges, and will allow a household lamp to light automatically at the onset of a power outage. It operates for 10 hours on a full charge.
