The Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania team stepped away from the office and into the field for a visit to Strong Spas in Northumberland, Pennsylvania on June 3.
Strong Spas is a leading American manufacturer of hot tubs and swim spas. Founded in the early 1990s, the company designs and manufactures a wide range of residential spas, swim spas, and wellness products at its production facility, with products sold throughout North America, Europe, and more than 40 countries worldwide. Strong Spas is known for its emphasis on energy-efficient designs, advanced hydrotherapy systems, and proprietary technologies such as its patented DURA-SHIELD® hard cover and durable spa construction methods. The company has grown into one of the world’s largest spa manufacturers while maintaining its operations and craftsmanship in central Pennsylvania.
The day began with a presentation from Strong Spas Founder and CEO Wade Spicer, who shared the company’s story, growth journey, and perspective on the opportunities and challenges facing today’s manufacturing sector. Drawing on decades of experience building the company, Spicer offered insights into entrepreneurship, leadership, and what it takes to grow a manufacturing business while remaining competitive in an ever-changing marketplace.
Following the presentation, the team joined Timothy Lust, Director of Operations, for a tour of the manufacturing floor. Lust guided the group through the production process, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how Strong Spas brings its products from concept to completion while maintaining a focus on quality, efficiency, and innovation.
As they moved through the facility, team members saw firsthand the craftsmanship, coordination, and attention to detail required to manufacture products that are shipped to customers across North America and around the world. The tour highlighted not only the scale of Strong Spas’ operations, but also the people and processes that drive the company’s success.
The visit provided a valuable opportunity for staff from across the organization to deepen their understanding of advanced manufacturing and strengthen connections with one of the innovative companies Ben Franklin Northeast has supported throughout its growth journey.
