Blaschak Coal Receives $1M Grant for Mine Development/Reclamation

Governor Tom Wolf announced a $1 million state grant for a mine development project for Blaschak Coal Corporation to reengineer, reopen, and redevelop a large reserve of Mammoth coal in the Mount Carmel region of Columbia County. The development will employ 25 to 30 UMWA miners and is the largest new mine development project in the region. Once the development is complete, it will provide considerable production of high quality anthracite coal for more than 20 years. As mining progresses, the land will be reclaimed and made available for alternative uses in the community. Wages for the created jobs are more than double the median household income in the region.
